Fly Away Purses

I haven't shared this on my blog yet, so I thought it might be time. I have been making some purses out of little girls' jeans. So far they've turned out pretty cute and a local business owner has offered to set up a display in her clothing store. Exciting, right? Well, I've been planning to take some purses in for several weeks, but just can't find the time to work on them. I finally got 6 purses made up and I took them with me to work today so I could drop them off at the store after work. I sent out an email at work telling my co-workers about the purses in case they wanted to buy one for their granddaughters for Easter. I never would have guessed that I would sell all 6 purses and get orders for at least 10 more! I'm very excited, but I'm under some pressure because they want them Monday since most of the grandchildren live out of town. I'm going to be gone this weekend and I've run out of jeans! I plan to pick some up at a second-hand store so I can maybe make some on Sunday. I should be in bed right now because it's nearly 12:00am and I have to telecommute in the morning. Anyway, just wanted to share my exciting day with any of you in cyberspace who might be reading this. Oh...if you need a purse, let me know, but please don't expect it before Easter! :)

I want one for tomorrow. Just kidding! That's awesome! Good luck getting them done and congratulations on being an entrepreneur. It looks like it's my turn or Little A's. Preston has mowing and plowing, Wesley has unlocks, and you have purses. Again, congratulations!

Thanks! My problem now is that I can't find any jeans for less than $2 and I refuse to pay that much when I also have to pay for the lining, buttons, strap, etc. I want to actually make money at it. So far it's going well. I think I've made $67 and I have orders for at least 7 more for Monday.

Does mom have any in her attic? Like any from the boys or dad? What size do they need to be? You should include a picture on your blog so we can see what they are like.

I use jeans/shorts/skirts/pants that are 18 months-2T/3T. They seem to work the best. Anything bigger makes the purse look akwardly large. (Sidenote: The word "akward" is very akward looking). My camera seems to be a little messed up right now, but I'll try to post a picture sometime.

I didn't even spell awkward right in my last comment. It was about 4:45 am when I typed it, so hopefully you grammar kings/queens will forgive me.

How did your purses turn out?

Purses went well. I sold all but 2 of them and I still have a couple people to sell to. Aunt Pam went to Goodwill and bought about 12 pairs of jeans/shorts/skirts, so I have a lot more I can make. I went to JoAnn Fabrics on Saturday and bought a lot of ribbon for straps. I would estimate I've grossed about $160 in about a week. Not bad, huh?

Cool! That is awesome! Sounds like it's been a fun and profitable project.
